Sam Currie
(b. 2000, West Lothian)
Currently: Edinburgh, Scotland, UK
Sam is a Scottish visual artist working within photography, based and educated on the subject in Edinburgh. Sam has a unique approach to the photographic method, prioritising an abstract concept of visual storytelling, where an individual image may not make sense but when combined with a series and some text, a comprehensive story forms to take the viewer on a journey.
Visuals remain the most important thing to Sam and growing up in the early 2000's he was subject to heavily stylised art styles and music videos on television, as well as the dawn of the internet as a societal norm, which has remained a close source of inspiration. This mixture of experimentation and the unfettered access to the internet has led Sam to become inspired by avant-garde internet artists such as Jack Stauber and Vewn.
Artistically, Sam is heavily inspired by other photographers such as Lieko Shiga, Daidō Moriyama, Shun Komiyama, Maxime Ballesteros, and his old lecturer, Ron O'Donnell.
Sam has achieved a BA/Hons in Photography and an MA in Applied Arts and Social Practice.
A collaboration with Edinburgh University Fashion Design Students was featured on PhotoVogue.
